After 10 Years, Big Sandy Homecoming is Back

Erik Sietsema | Aug 28, 2024

Locals and Big Sandy Alumni are eager to get together once again after a 10-year
interval between celebrations due to the cancellation of the 2020 Homecoming due to
the pandemic. In anticipation of the event, invitations for Homecoming 2025 have been
sent, and you can register either by mail or online, an option that is intended to make
the process easier and more convenient for all. The attached QR Code will bring you to
the registration page. The homecoming committee is eager to hear from attendees and
has a full slate of activities planned for the week.
The Big Sandy Homecoming has been taking place every 5 years since 1950 to
celebrate Big Sandy graduates, families, and friends. It is a three day extravaganza
bringing Pioneer Alum from around the world. The three day gathering typically swells
the town’s population to 3 times its everyday size! Homecoming is a sort of small-town
family reunion to get in touch again, meet and greet dear old friends and make new
ones as folks gather for a weekend of fun, festivities, and a full roster of activities.
The theme for this year’s event is “All Roads Lead Home,” which is fitting as the event
brings friends, neighbors, and loved ones back to our small town. Homecoming is for
everyone who has called Big Sandy home (or if you just wanted to call it home!). Even if
you aren’t a Big Sandy graduate, Homecoming welcomes you home as a member of
the Big Sandy Pioneer family home.
The tentative schedule of events includes a parade, an ice cream social, street dances
on Main Street downtown with a DJ Friday night. Saturday’s excitement includes a
banquet, a program at the High School gym, a classic car show, a Big Sandy Medical
Center corn-hole tournament, the return of the color run to benefit the Big Sandy Swim
Team, Sunday breakfast put on by the Local Masons, a community Sunday brunch, and
more. There will also be class reunions as organized by individual classes.
The committee is currently looking for help in various capacities. If you are interested in
helping out, contact the Homecoming Committee and let them know how you want to
pitch in. In addition, the committee is accepting donations to help defray the costs of
putting on the event.
If you have not received a homecoming registration in the mail and want one, you can
contact the Homecoming Committee with your current name, address, and email
address by visiting their website (bigsandyhomecoming.org), Facebook
(www.facebook.com/BigSandyHomecoming). The physical copy of the registration
includes a schedule highlighting the major events
If you are interested in remembering a lost loved one or classmate, you can purchase a
1/4 page black and white memorial for $25. Those interested in doing so should mail a
